LogExpert is a Windows tail program (a GUI replacement for the Unix tail command). LogExpert is free for non-commercial or commercial use.

Columnizers
LogExpert can split a log file into well defined columns. There's already an included ready-to-use Columnizer for parsing various timestamp formats out of the log lines. But you can develop own Columnizers by providing a plugin DLL.

About tail programs

What is a tail program good for? The original tail UNIX command is a program to display a text file and monitor the file for changes. All changes are displayed in realtime. So tail is perfect for watching log files.

For Windows there's no tail command. But there are many good replacements for tail (e.g. BareTail or Tail for Win32) out there. LogExpert is one of these tail programs. It adds some nice features which are very useful if you have to work with log files.
V 1.3 release

I decided to declare the latest official beta (build 3644) to be the official 1.3 final version. There are no serious issues. Most users seem to already work with that version anyway.

For new features compared to the old 1.2 see the forum.

All new bugfixes will now go into upcoming 1.4 beta versions. This includes the already done (but not yet released) fixes for bugs #25, #6, #31, #35. There's already a first beta available.

 
V 1.3 beta

Now you can download a beta version of the upcoming V 1.3 release. You can find the download link at the forum.

Currently there's no help file for the new features. But you can find a list of changes in the forum. Feel free to test it. There are some things you won't miss in the future. E.g. filter save/restore, Log4j XML support, enhanced performance, and other little things.

 
 
Bugfix Update for V1.2

I've just uploaded a new build of LogExpert (1.2 / 3354). The only change is a bugfix: The scroll range is now adjusted correctly when adding 'virtual blank lines' (Enter key). The new build replaces the old one at the download page.

LogExpert 1.2 is now finally released. The probably most exciting new feature is the persistence. It saves the current state of work including all filters.
